Who we are

Our Little Book is the service described on this site, and we are the company responsible for the personal information handled through it. Information we collect

Your account: your email address. We don’t store your password ourselves; our authentication provider handles it securely.

The details you give us to make a book: character names and descriptions, story ideas, and the people, pets, and moments you’d like the book to be about, written in your own words. These often describe real people, including children. Importantly, you describe characters in words and choices, you do not upload photographs of people, and we do not collect or store any. We also keep the books, characters, and artwork created for you.

Purchases: when you buy something, we keep a record of the order, such as the item, amount, currency, and identifiers from our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number. We also keep your in-app credit balance and history.

Hardcover orders, if you place one: the shipping name, address, and phone number and the contact email needed to print and deliver your book.

Sharing: if you share a character or a book with someone by email, we process the email address you enter for that purpose.

Messages and devices: the email address we send service messages to, and, if you use a mobile app, a device token used to deliver notifications.

Technical and usage information: basic details like the kind of device and browser you use and your IP address, handled to run, secure, and protect the service. If you join a waitlist, we keep the email you provide.

How we use your information

We use your information to create, store, and deliver your books, to run your account and the credit and billing that go with it, to fulfill a hardcover order, to send the messages the service depends on, to keep the service secure and prevent abuse, to understand and improve how the service is used, and to support you. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to show you ads.

How your book is generated

To write and illustrate your book, the details you provide and the artwork generated for it are sent to trusted AI providers: Anthropic for writing (and, during quality checks, the generated images), xAI for illustration, and Google as a backup illustration provider. They process that content to generate your book. Companies that help us run the service

We rely on a small set of trusted companies to operate Our Little Book, each handling information only to provide its service to us, under its own data protections: a hosting provider, a database, storage, and authentication provider, a background-processing provider, an email delivery provider, a payment processor, a printing and shipping partner (only when you order a hardcover), the mobile push-notification service (only if you use a mobile app), an analytics provider, and the AI providers above. Cookies, analytics, and your consent

We use a small cookie to keep you signed in as you move around the site. For measurement, we use Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) and our host’s analytics to understand how the site is used. These do not load and do not collect anything until you accept them through our cookie banner; if you decline, they stay off. Your choice is remembered in your browser and we ask again periodically. We’ve set up our analytics to avoid personal information (web addresses are stripped of identifiers), and we never enable advertising or ad-personalization signals.

Email we send

We send service and security emails, such as sign-in messages and a note when your book is ready; these are part of using Our Little Book. We may also send occasional helpful or promotional emails, such as a nudge about an unfinished book or a note about the service, and you can opt out of those at any time.

Sharing features and other people’s information

If you share a character with someone, the email you enter is used to deliver it, and your email address is shown to the person you share with. If you share a book through a private link, anyone who has the link can view that book, and we note when it was last viewed so you can see whether it’s been opened. Please only share content, and submit someone’s email, when you have the right to.

Reviews

If you leave a review and it’s approved for display, the rating, your note, and the display name you chose may be shown publicly as part of showing others what people think of the service. We use a first name and last initial for attribution, never your email address.

Payments

Payments are handled by our payment processor on its own secure checkout. We never see or store your full card details. We keep a record of your orders and the identifiers our processor gives us so we can recognize your purchases and memberships.

Children’s privacy

Books are often made for and about children, but accounts and the service itself are for adults. Our Little Book is not directed to children, and we don’t knowingly collect information directly from a child. It is the adult account holder, not a child, who provides the details that go into a book. [Our position on children’s data and how it is handled is being confirmed with counsel before launch.]

Where your information is handled

Our Little Book and the companies that help us run it are based in the United States, so your information is handled there. [If we serve you from outside the United States, the safeguards we use for that transfer are being finalized: counsel to confirm.]

Your choices and rights

You stay in control of your information. From your account page you can download a full copy of your data, edit or delete your books and characters, and permanently delete your account. You can opt out of non-essential emails and decline analytics at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your information, and we don’t sell or share it for advertising. Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your account, books, and characters while your account is active, so your work is there when you return. You can edit or delete your books and characters at any time, and you can permanently delete your account whenever you like, which removes your books, your characters, and their pictures. A book that is started but then left untouched for a long time may eventually be cleared as abandoned, and stray files no longer attached to anything are swept up. We may keep limited records that we’re required to retain for legal, tax, or financial reasons, even after an account is closed.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information: your books and artwork live in private storage reached only through short-lived, signed links, access is restricted at the database level, and we work with established providers who protect data too. No service can promise perfect security, but we treat your family’s details with the care they deserve, and if a security incident affects your information we’ll act on it and notify you where the law requires.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service grows. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page.
